National Student Leadership Academy (NSLA)

December 4-7 Washington, D.C.

Event Description:

The National Student Leadership Academy (NSLA) is a premier event for advanced leadership development hosted in Washington, D.C. Selected JAG-NM student officers will participate in workshops, networking sessions, and leadership training activities designed to enhance their skills and broaden their perspectives. Attendees will also visit the nation’s capital to meet with legislators, gain firsthand insight into how government functions, and advocate for the needs of students.

Why Attend:

NSLA offers an unparalleled opportunity for leadership growth and civic engagement. Participants will develop advanced leadership skills, connect with peers from across the country, and return with actionable insights to strengthen their local JAG-NM programs.

How to Participate:
Selection for NSLA is based on leadership performance and recommendations from JAG-NM specialists.

Additional Information:
Travel and accommodation arrangements will be provided. Participants should prepare for an intensive program and dress in business attire for all sessions.

JAG Day at the Legislature

January - Long Session, The New Mexico State Capitol Roundhouse in Santa Fe

Event Description:
JAG Day at the Legislature offers chapter presidents a unique opportunity to engage directly with state legislators and gain a deeper understanding of the legislative process. Attendees will have the chance to participate in guided tours, attend legislative sessions, and interact with lawmakers to discuss important issues and the impact of JAG-NM programs. Chapter presidents will share the information and resources they gather with their respective chapters afterward.

 

Why Attend:
This event provides valuable insight into the workings of state government and offers students the chance to voice their perspectives on educational and career development issues. It’s an excellent opportunity for civic engagement and professional growth.

 

How to Participate:
JAG-NM chapter presidents and educators can register through their JAG-NM coordinators.

 

Additional Information:
Students are encouraged to dress in business attire and prepare questions for legislators. Transportation details will be provided closer to the event date.

Career Development Conference (CDC)

March 5th at Crowne Plaza Albuquerque

Event Description:
The Career Development Conference (CDC) is a state-level platform for JAG-NM students to showcase their skills and compete in various categories, such as public speaking, resume writing, and interview techniques. The CDC provides students with hands-on experience and professional feedback, helping them develop skills crucial for their future careers.

 

Why Attend:

As a judge, volunteer, or employer, your participation plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of talent. You’ll directly impact students’ growth and readiness for the workforce by providing valuable feedback, networking opportunities, and career insights. It’s also a unique chance to meet motivated young individuals preparing to enter the job market. 

 

How to Participate:

We are actively seeking judges, volunteers, and employers to support this event. Whether you’d like to provide feedback, network with students, or assist with event logistics, your involvement is essential to the success of the conference. National Career Development Conference (NCDC)

April dates TBD - Indianapolis, Indiana

Event Description:
The National Career Development Conference (NCDC) is a major event where students participate in national competitions and events, representing JAG-NM on a broader stage. The conference includes a variety of career-related competitions, workshops, and networking opportunities designed to showcase students' skills and talents.

 

Why Attend:
NCDC provides students with a platform to compete at the national level, gain recognition, and connect with peers and professionals from across the country. It’s a significant milestone for career development and achievement.

 

How to Participate:
Students must qualify through regional competitions to attend NCDC.

 

Additional Information:
Details on travel and accommodation will be provided to qualifying students. Attendees should come prepared with all necessary materials for their competitions and dress in professional attire.

State Student Leadership Conference (SSLC)

November 14, 2024 at Explora!

Event Description:
The State Student Leadership Conference brings together JAG-NM students from across the state for a day of leadership development, networking, and skills-building workshops. Attendees will participate in sessions designed to enhance communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities, while also learning from industry leaders and guest speakers.

This event is a valuable opportunity for students to sharpen their leadership skills, engage with peers from different regions, and gain insights that will help them in both their academic and career journeys.

 

How to Participate:
JAG-NM students and educators can register for the conference through their JAG-NM coordinators. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.
