Displaced Job Corps Students Need You! Let's Create a Safety Net Together
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A national education nonprofit is stepping up to support New Mexico students after federal cuts all but shut down a program dedicated to helping at-risk youth. Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) is quickly expanding its reach in New Mexico.
The DOL’s announcement promised to help current students with other ways to advance training and provide job opportunities. But Kaity Parent with JAG-NM, a partner group, said that’s not what’s happening. Instead, students are being told to leave with little to no help. “These students are leaving without housing, food, transportation, health care support. Some of them were in the middle of their high school diplomas, their GED, different trade certifications, and they’ve lost access to those support systems,” Parent said. JAG-NM stands for Jobs for America’s Graduates. It’s a national nonprofit that has an affiliate here in New Mexico. “We work to help students who are at risk of dropping out or have dropped out,” she said. She said in her 20 years of working with students, she’s never seen a need this large. “We have some students who are not going to have a home as of this week, if not less, we have some students who don’t know where their next meal is going to come from,” Parent said.

The organization launched an emergency support initiative Monday to aid displaced Job Corps students...

Amber Reno received the Outstanding Specialist Award. Dixie Hollingsworth received the High Performer Award. Sonia Soto received the High Performer Award. ✨ Thank you for your dedication and hard work to students across New Mexico ✨

Check out the wonderful work JAG NM students are doing! The Rio Grande HS JAG class for freshman & sophomores worked on a bilingual group project - writing, illustrating, & reading a children's book. The book is written in English & in Spanish for all the students in our community. This project helped to highlight enviornmental issues and social issues from the perspective of animals. They even made a trailer for the book - all of which was illustrated using AI. This was such a creative project, focusing on real world issues & using emerging technologies to complete their project. We just had to show it off 😁

✨We are thrilled to announce the election of our new board leaders! Congratulations to Andrew Mathis as Board Chair, Clemy Garza as Vice Chair and Board Secretary, and Carla Kugler as Treasurer. We're excited for the incredible impact you'll make! This upcoming school year is going to be the best yet✨

We are so excited to celebrate all New Mexico students who are graduating this season. Join us in wishing these graduates a big CONGRATS and stay tuned for more graduates from our JAG sites. They worked hard & they deserve all the recognition! We're so proud 🥹🥳
The Rio Grande High School senior is planning to attend the University of New Mexico in the fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. She credits the Jobs For America’s Graduates program at her school with giving her the confidence to pursue her dream of getting into medical school and becoming a doctor.

The wins keep coming & we love to see it! Congrats to 2 of our NM JAG students from Carlsbad who have completed their electrical certifications. We are so proud of the students for taking the next step on their career path. Cheers to lighting up your futures! We want to thank Skill Point Academy for taking on these young students & providing them with the opportunity to expand their education. This opportunity provided our students with the skills to become financially independent and work within any community they are needed.
